Cold and Lukewarm

COLD AND LUKEWARM
Contributed by Melanie Schurr

I know a middle-aged man who insists that he believes in God, yet, ironically, his words and actions usually don't support this acclaimed belief. When a Christian radio or TV program is on, he is quick to change the channel with a roll of the eyes, and when discussions of faith are raised, he immediately applies the label of "Jesus freak" to those Christians around him. This same individual admits to not praying to God, or even picking up a Bible since his
youth, and reveals a life dominated by the desires of the flesh as opposed to spirit.

Here is what the Bible has to say about such individuals: "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot: I wish you were cold or hot. So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth." Revelation 3:14-15

You see, when you truly believe in God and His Word, you want to share the good news with others so they too can know this love and mercy. To hoard God's love to yourself is like eating a banquet in front of a group of starving people.

Sharing our faith is not just a nice thing to do, it is an obligation, for it is impossible to believe in God's love and to be selfish, unloving and uncaring.

If you are putting off accepting Christ in to your life simply because you don't want the responsibility of caring about others in this way, worry not, for you do not need special training in order to share God's merciful love. Having a changed heart and life is the
best testament we can offer God, and others.
